Employee Directory For A More Connected Hybrid Workplace (March 2022 Release)

Kadence hybrid working software employee directory

In March 2022, Kadence released an employee directory to help people in a hybrid workplace find each other. It gave every employee access to anyone’s profile in the company, including their schedule, teams and contact details, from the Kadence mobile app or desktop platform.

The release came as restrictions were lifting globally and more people were returning to the office on certain days of the week to collaborate with their teammates. The directory was one of several highly requested features in that release.

What did the Kadence employee directory do?

The employee directory held an A to Z list of everyone at the company who used Kadence. Each profile stored contextual information about that person: their schedule, the teams they belonged to and their contact details. Anyone could open anyone’s profile and see where that colleague had booked to work.

An employee directory is a searchable list of the people in an organization, with a profile for each person. In a hybrid setting, the schedule attached to each name is what matters: it shows who will be in the office and when.

Why does a hybrid workplace need access to everyone’s schedule?

In a hybrid workplace, colleagues outside your own team are hard to find. When everyone worked in the office at the same time, finding them was simple. Once people split their week between home and office, you need to know someone’s schedule before you can plan to meet them. The directory made that information available company-wide.

Many projects need people outside your direct team. The March 2022 release gave employees an access-all-areas pass to their colleagues’ information, so connecting with them no longer depended on chance.

How does it help build connections across teams?

People power the workplace, not the other way around. A connected workforce is paramount to work success, and connection across teams does not happen by itself when attendance varies day to day. The directory let employees connect with whoever they needed, without workplace obstacles or restrictions, and then plan in-person time around real schedules.

The original announcement used a simple example. In the old ways of working, you could walk over to the 5th floor to find Jimmy in the engineering team. In a hybrid world, Jimmy may not be in the office when you are. With the directory, you could find Jimmy even though he was not on your team, tap his profile, see his schedule and where he had booked to work, and plan to be in the office on the same day to meet face to face.

For workplace leaders, the same pattern connects day-to-day people coordination with office planning. Schedules and bookings show who is coming in, and that makes shared office days easier to arrange. Kadence’s guide to bringing teams together covers how organizations plan those days.

How did you use the employee directory?

At launch in March 2022, the directory took four steps to use:

  1. Log in to the Kadence mobile app or desktop platform and select the Directory tab.
  2. Find your teams and a tab named Colleagues.
  3. Select Colleagues to see a full list of employees at your company using Kadence.
  4. Select any colleague and view their profile to find what you need.

The directory sat alongside Kadence’s other WorkOps features for booking desks and planning office days.
