How it works
Parking spaces are set up like desks: each has a type, such as general, accessible, electric vehicle, motorbike or bicycle, a location and rules. Some are assigned permanently, for example to people with accessibility needs, and the rest are bookable.
Employees add a parking space when they book their desk for the day, or book it separately. Rules control how far ahead people can book, how long they can hold a space and which groups get priority, such as car sharers.
Check-in and release matter as much as for desks: a space booked but not used should go back to the pool. Parking data also tells facilities whether to lease more spaces, give some up or add electric vehicle charging.
How to measure it
- Peak-day parking occupancy by space type.
- Unused bookings and released spaces.
- Requests turned away because parking was full.
- Whether parking bookings count toward office attendance in reports.
Examples
- An employee books a desk for Wednesday and adds an electric vehicle space in the same booking.
- A site with fewer spaces than drivers keeps accessible spaces permanently assigned and lets people book the rest a week ahead.
Common mistakes
- First-come, first-served parking in a hybrid office, which rewards early arrivals and sends everyone else to find street parking.
- Keeping parking on a separate spreadsheet, so it cannot be booked with a desk.
- Counting a parking booking as office attendance without deciding whether it should.
How Kadence helps
Kadence makes parking spaces bookable alongside desks, rooms, lockers and pods, with priority booking access and booking rules such as maximum durations. Employees book from the web and mobile apps, and admins decide whether parking bookings count toward attendance in Workplace Insights.
Frequently asked questions
How do you manage office parking in a hybrid workplace?
Make spaces bookable instead of first come, first served, keep assigned spaces for people who need them, let people add parking to their desk booking, release unused bookings and use occupancy data to decide how many spaces to keep.
What is parking booking software?
Parking booking software lets employees reserve a parking space for a date and time, often together with a desk. Admins set space types, access rules and booking limits and see how parking is used.
How should accessible and electric vehicle spaces be handled?
Assign accessible spaces to the people who need them, or limit booking to them. Make electric vehicle spaces bookable with shorter maximum durations, so more drivers can charge during the day.
