How it works
The workplace platform publishes an app in the Microsoft Teams app store or the Slack app directory. IT approves it once for the organization, and employees add it like any other app, signing in with their company account.
Inside Teams or Slack, people open a tab, use buttons and forms, or type a request in plain language, such as book me a desk near my team on Tuesday or find a room for five this afternoon. The app calls the booking platform, which applies the same rules, neighborhoods and availability as the web and mobile apps.
Notifications travel the other way: check-in reminders, notices that a teammate has booked, announcements and weekly schedules arrive in chat. Because the booking platform stays the system of record, a booking made in Teams shows in the mobile app, on the floor plan and in reports.
How to measure it
- Track the share of bookings made from Teams or Slack against other channels after launch.
- Compare adoption by team before and after the chat app is rolled out.
- Watch check-in rates after turning on chat reminders.
Examples
- An employee types book me a desk near my team on Thursday in Teams and gets a confirmed desk on the right floor.
- A Slack message each Monday shows which teammates plan to be in the office that week.
Benchmarks
Wavex got 100% adoption through Microsoft Teams.

Common mistakes
- Rolling out the chat app without telling people it is the default place to book.
- Allowing booking in chat under different rules from the main app.
- Sending so many notifications that people mute the app.

Frequently asked questions
Can you book a desk in Microsoft Teams?
Yes, through a workplace app installed in Teams. Employees can find and book desks and rooms, see teammates' office days on a floor plan and check in from Teams. Some apps also accept plain-language requests to a bot, such as asking for a desk near a named colleague.
Can you book desks in Slack?
Yes. Workplace platforms with a Slack app let people book and change desks, see who is heading to the office and get check-in reminders in Slack. Bookings made in Slack follow the same rules and appear in the same reports as bookings made anywhere else.
Do bookings made in Teams or Slack show in the main booking app?
They should. In a well-built integration the booking platform is the single system of record, and Teams or Slack is just another way in. Test this before rollout: book in chat and confirm the booking appears in the mobile app, on the floor plan and in reports.
Is booking in Teams or Slack secure?
It uses the same controls as the rest of the platform. IT approves the app centrally, people sign in with their company account through single sign-on, and permissions and booking rules still apply. Check which data the app can read in chat before approving it.
